Faculty Work Culture in Textile and Clothing Studies: A Thematic Analysis of Institutional Challenges and Emerging Opportunities
Faculty Work Culture, Textile Education, Academic Professionalism, Higher Education Policy, Industry Collaboration, Sustainable Textile Studies
Faculty work culture significantly influences teaching effectiveness, research productivity, industry collaboration, and institutional development in professional disciplines such as Textile and Clothing Studies. As an interdisciplinary field integrating textile science, design innovation, technology, sustainability, and socio-cultural heritage, it requires a dynamic academic ecosystem. However, faculty members frequently encounter structural constraints including workload imbalance, limited research infrastructure, inadequate recognition of practice-based scholarship, and weak industry linkages. Simultaneously, emerging opportunities such as interdisciplinary research, digital pedagogy, sustainable textile innovation, and global academic networking are redefining faculty roles.
The present study adopts a qualitative conceptual research design based on systematic secondary data analysis of academic literature, higher education policy documents, and accreditation reports published between 2005 and 2024. Using thematic content analysis, the study identifies recurring structural and professional issues affecting faculty work culture in textile and clothing education. The paper proposes strategic interventions aimed at strengthening institutional support systems, research recognition, and collaborative frameworks to enhance academic excellence and long-term sustainability.
