Testing Herbal Remedies for Inflammation and Oxidative Stress

Abstract

Centuries ago, healing practices took root in traditions like Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha - plants formed their backbone when tackling illness. From green matter came breakthroughs; today’s medicines often trace origins to leaves, roots, or bark once used by healers long gone. Proof matters now more than ever, so old cures face lab tests to see what truly works beneath ancient claims. Curcuma longa, known as Turmeric, shows up in old healing practices for swelling and damage from toxins. Instead of modern drugs, people have turned to Azadirachta indica - Neem - when fighting similar health issues. Ocimum sanctum, often called Tulsi, appears again and again in home remedies meant to calm irritation inside the body. These green helpers get picked because they’ve stood the test of time across generations. While science looks closely, tradition already trusts them for stress and fire-like conditions in tissues. One part looks at pulling natural compounds from plants, checking their chemical makeup. Another step tests how they work in lab settings, also inside living organisms. From there, swelling reduction gets measured after injecting a substance that causes inflammation. At the same time, ability to neutralize harmful molecules is checked through a method tracking color changes. What happens next shows how plant extracts handle stress on cells. One outcome might just back up age-old remedies with hard data. New medicines from plants could come out of this work, thanks to clearer evidence. Cheaper treatments may follow, built on natural sources instead of synthetic ones.
