Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology and smartphone usage has significantly transformed the food service industry. Online food delivery platforms have become an essential part of modern lifestyles by providing convenience, time saving, and a wide variety of food choices. Among the leading platforms in India, Swiggy and Zomato play a major role in the online food delivery market. This study focuses on analyzing and comparing consumer preferences toward these two platforms in Coimbatore district. The primary objective of the study is to identify the factors that influence consumer preference, such as delivery speed, discounts and offers, restaurant variety, delivery charges, and app usability. The research is based on primary data collected through a structured questionnaire from 104 respondents using convenience sampling. Secondary data were gathered from journals, websites, and books related to online food delivery services. The collected data were analyzed using statistical tools such as simple percentage analysis, chi-square test, and ranking analysis. The findings reveal that a majority of respondents belong to the younger age group and students form a significant portion of users of online food delivery apps. The study shows that Zomato has a slightly higher preference among respondents compared to Swiggy, mainly due to better restaurant variety and perceived faster delivery. However, Swiggy is considered better in terms of discounts and customer service. The results also indicate that factors such as fast delivery, attractive offers, lower delivery charges, and a user-friendly app interface play an important role in influencing consumer choices. Overall, the study concludes that both platforms maintain strong competition in the market, and improving service quality and customer experience will help them retain and attract more users.
