IOT based Power Theft Detection System
IOT, Power Theft Detection System, current sensor, voltage sensor, Electricity theft
Electric power theft is a major challenge faced by power distribution companies worldwide, leading
to significant revenue loss, inefficient energy management, and increased operational costs.
Traditional power monitoring systems lack real-time tracking and intelligent analysis, making it
difficult to detect unauthorized consumption effectively. This project presents an IoT- based Power
Theft Detection System that enables continuous monitoring, detection, and reporting of electricity
theft using smart sensing and communication technologies. The proposed system utilizes current and
voltage sensors to measure power consumption at both the distribution end and consumer end, and
compares the recorded values to identify discrepancies caused by illegal tapping or meter bypassing.
A microcontroller processes the sensor data and transmits it to a cloud platform through IoT
communication modules, enabling real-time data visualization and remote monitoring. When
abnormal power usage or theft is detected, the system automatically generates alerts to the utility
provider via web dashboards or mobile notifications, allowing quick corrective action. The
implementation of IoT technology ensures
