Addiction among Youth: Challenges and Remedial Measures

Addiction among youth has emerged as a serious social, psychological, and public health issue in contemporary society. The increasing use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and digital media has significantly affected the physical health, mental well-being, academic performance, and social relationships of young individuals. The present study aims to explore the causes, consequences, challenges, and remedial measures related to addiction among youth using a qualitative research methodology. The study is based on in-depth interviews and case discussions with youth experiencing addiction-related problems. The findings of the study reveal that peer pressure, family conflict, academic stress, emotional problems, media influence, and easy availability of addictive substances are the major factors contributing to addiction among youth. The study also found that addiction leads to physical health problems, mental health issues, academic decline, family conflict, and social isolation. The study suggests remedial measures such as awareness programs, counseling services, family intervention, community participation, and rehabilitation services to address the issue of youth addiction. The study concludes that youth addiction is a multidimensional problem that requires coordinated efforts from families, educational institutions, social workers, communities, and government agencies.
