Digital technologies have emerged as a powerful catalyst for transforming rural governance and accelerating the development of smart villages in India. Gram Panchayats, being the foundational institutions of grassroots democracy, play a critical role in delivering public services, ensuring transparency, and promoting participatory governance. This study examines the role and impact of digital technologies in strengthening Gram Panchayat governance and facilitating smart village initiatives. The research analyses key digital interventions such as e-governance platforms, mobile applications, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital financial services in enhancing administrative efficiency, service delivery, and citizen engagement at the village level. The study also explores government initiatives including Digital India, e-Panchayat, and e Gram Swaraj, highlighting their contribution to accountable and inclusive governance. Further, the research identifies major challenges such as inadequate digital infrastructure, low digital literacy, data security concerns, and resistance to technological change. Based on the findings, the study proposes policy recommendations and a strategic framework for effective implementation of digital technologies to achieve sustainable, inclusive, and transparent rural governance. The study concludes that the integration of digital technologies in Gram Panchayat administration is essential for realizing the vision of smart villages and strengthening rural development in India.
