IMPACT OF AI CHATBOTS ON ACADEMIC RESEARCH WRITING BY STUDENTS

Artificial Intelligence technologies are changing different industries and fields, including the education and academic research fields. Among the Artificial Intelligence technologies is the AI chatbots technology, which is proving to be very important in assisting students with their academic writing and research activities. This study aimed to investigate the influence of AI chatbots on academic research writing among students at the University level. This research aimed to understand students’ awareness and perceptions about AI chatbots in academic research writing activities. A quantitative research approach was used to collect data from the students at the University using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to analyze the data collected from the students using percentage analysis and graphical representation. From the study findings, it is clear that AI chatbots play an important role in assisting students with their academic research writing activities. However, academic integrity, overdependence on AI chatbots, and loss of originality were noted as some of the concerns among the students. This study concludes that AI chatbots can be used as an academic tool to assist students with their academic research writing activities if used appropriately and ethically by the students.
